“Because the Hispanic population has had a better opportunity here to plant roots and to be part of a majority minority state. I think this is a place to watch in the future when the ethnic makeup of the country is more like New Mexico,” Monahan says.

New Mexico[note 1] (in English, New Mexico; in Navajo, Yootó Hahoodzo) is one of the fifty states that, along with Washington D. C., form the United States of America. Its capital is Santa Fe and its most populated city, Albuquerque.

Manuel Payno, in his novel Los Bandidos de Río Frío, describes the fair of San Juan de los Lagos in Jalisco. In this description, he includes the part that the New Mexico trade took in this fair:

Texas transferred the east to the federal government, settling a long-running territorial dispute. Following a compromise, the U.S. government established the Territory of New Mexico on September 9, 1850. The territory, which included most of Arizona, New Mexico and parts of Colorado, officially established its capital at Santa Fe in 1851.
