Octopuses, crabs, lobsters and other cephalopods and crustaceans are being recognized as sentient beings in the UK following a report by the London School of Economics (LSE).  This could lead to changes in the treatment and slaughter of these animals in the country. For example, the boiling of live lobsters could be banned.

The proposed legislation was extended after an independent review by the LSE, which analyzed more than 300 scientific studies and found “strong scientific evidence” that sea creatures can feel pain and distress.

Senior research fellow and associate professor at the LSE’s Center for Philosophy of Natural and Social Sciences, Dr. Jonathan Birch, says the amendment will help remove a “major inconsistency.”

For his part, UK animal welfare minister Zac Goldsmith believes the new bill “provides a crucial guarantee that animal welfare is properly taken into account when developing new laws.”

This is an unlikely scenario. Very unlikely, because the common interests are so high that no one would benefit from an abrupt break-up between the United Kingdom and the European Union. At times, during the arduous negotiations, the possibility of a so-called hard Brexit was feared. In the end, it did not happen to the full extent and the agreement was reached, but even after the divorce was finalized, there are still disagreements between London and Brussels.

In mid-November, the British Brexit Secretary, David Frost, assured that it would be legitimate to unilaterally tear up parts of the agreement. Brussels was undaunted and, at the insinuation, threatened retaliation in the form of tariffs. In the event of a total break-up, the consequences would cover different fields, but three issues would be the main ones at risk. Firstly, fisheries and Northern Ireland, which are already the biggest sources of friction today, and secondly, trade, which is always vulnerable to political fickleness.

Later in his reign, George suffered from recurrent and ultimately permanent mental illness. It is now believed that he suffered from mental and nervous disorders as a result of porphyria, a blood disease that has affected several British monarchs. Recently, scientists have discovered high levels of arsenic in samples of his hair, so it could be assumed that this was a possible cause of the king’s insanity and health problems. Playwright Alan Bennett wrote a successful play on this subject, and director Nicholas Hytner made it into a film under the title The Madness of King George.

George William Frederick (George William Frederick) was born prematurely at Norfolk House in London at 07:45 on June 4, 1738, the second son and first-born male of nine descendants of Prince Frederick Louis of Wales and Augusta of Saxe-Gotha.

It is said that George was madly in love with Lady Sarah Lennox, daughter of Charles Lennox, II Duke of Richmond, and was truly shaken when he first saw the ungraceful Charlotte, whom he met the same day of their wedding. However, he went ahead with his marriage vows and, remarkably, never took a mistress (in contrast to his two predecessors). In time, the royal couple came to enjoy genuine domestic bliss. Fifteen children were born of this union:
