Homemade septic tank
Septic tank. A septic tank is a hermetically sealed container where sewage accumulates and is given primary treatment, separating the solids from the sewage. It removes solids by accumulating the sewage in the tank and allowing some of the solids to settle to the bottom of the tank while the solids that float (oils and grease) rise to the top. To give the solids time to settle, the tank should hold the sewage for at least 24 hours. Some of the solids are removed from the water, some are digested, and some remain in the tank.
Soak pit and septic tank
Septic tanks and cesspools have common characteristics, but they refer to two different ways of disposing of wastewater from domestic use in homes that, for various reasons, do not have or are not connected to any sewage system.
To begin with, the septic tank is a mechanism built with impermeable materials that removes pollutants from sewage and must be emptied and cleaned when it reaches its maximum capacity. Its operation improves the longer the sewage is retained. It consists of a space or container made of concrete, fiberglass or plastic with several tanks.
The first tank serves as a receiver for the sewage generated in a house. In this tank, chemicals and the activity of microorganisms degrade or dilute the organic elements that reach the site and make them less solid.
The treatment processes of a septic tank destroy most of the organic components before the wastewater returns to the ground, and are emptied before reaching the maximum level of its capacity, through specialized companies.
Septic tank permit
The first of them is the receiver of the sewage generated in a house. In this deposit, the chemical products do their thing and degrade or dilute the organic elements that reach the place and make them less solid.
As for its maintenance, the first thing that is required is to make sure that it is airtight. Subsequently, it is necessary to verify that the levels of sludge and foam are in optimal state so that there is no problem with the operation. With respect to chemical products, it is necessary to use those suitable for this type of construction and operation.
On the other hand, a cesspool, or cesspit, is a hole made in the ground where the wastewater generated in a building or house goes. This method of receiving water is less hygienic than the septic tank because it is an excavation in the ground in the shape of a well.
