Endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR) is a surgery performed to prevent the largest blood vessel in the body from bursting. An aneurysm is a widening or bulging of the aorta. This repair is also known as stent grafting, as it involves the insertion of an implant supported by thin metal tubes (stents).

If a bulge occurs in the aorta as it crosses the chest, it is called a thoracic aortic aneurysm. If it occurs in the aorta as it crosses the abdomen, it is called an abdominal aortic aneurysm. Abdominal aneurysms are more common than thoracic aneurysms.

Aortic aneurysms usually have no symptoms unless they are large or growing rapidly. Your primary care doctor may only suspect you have an aortic aneurysm by routine examination.

Endovascular repair is not right for everyone. It depends on several factors, including the shape of your aneurysm, how close it is to other blood vessels, and whether the arteries in your groin are large enough to insert the stent graft and delivery device.

It is a benefit that guarantees that all persons who present an emergency (risk of death or risk of serious sequelae), in the field of health, receive immediate attention in any Hospital or private clinic, if they are affiliated to Fonasa or Isapre in an undifferentiated manner.

When you are admitted by Emergency Law, your health system will pay for the care until the moment of your stabilization directly to the Hospital or clinic. Afterwards, you will have to pay back a part of the cost to Fonasa or Isapre. In other words, it is a loan and does not imply free care.

As it does not condition the care to a payment, the care you receive until your stabilization will be paid by Fonasa or your Isapre, as appropriate. Then, you will have to make a co-payment (pay a part) of that care.

The amount you must pay will depend on the complexity of the emergency and your Fonasa or Isapre plan. Remember that the co-payment is what you have left to pay of the total bill, after the bonus made by your insurance company.
