An adjustment layer applies color and tone adjustments to the image without permanently changing pixel values. For example, instead of performing a levels or curves adjustment directly on the image, you can create a levels or curves adjustment layer. Tonal and color adjustments are stored in the adjustment layer and applied to all layers below it. You can correct multiple layers with a single adjustment instead of adjusting each layer separately. You can discard the changes and restore the original image at any time. Fill layers allow you to fill a layer with a uniform color, gradient or pattern. Unlike adjustment layers, fill layers do not affect the layers below them. Adjustment layers offer the following advantages:

Adjustment and fill layers have the same opacity and blending mode options as image layers. You can rearrange, delete, hide and duplicate them in the same way you create image layers.

The chi-square goodness-of-fit test is a statistical hypothesis test used to find out whether or not a variable is likely to come from a specific distribution. It is often used to determine whether data from a sample are representative of the entire population.

The chi-square goodness-of-fit test tests whether the sample data are likely to come from a specific theoretical distribution. We have a set of data values and some idea about how they are distributed. This test gives us a way to decide whether the data fit our idea well enough or we should revise it.

Let’s use the bags of candy as an example.  We gather a random sample of ten bags.  Each bag has 100 candies of five flavors. Our hypothesis is that the proportion of the five flavors in each bag is the same.

To decide this, we find the difference between what we have and what we expect. Then, to give the flavors with fewer pieces than expected the same importance as the flavors with more pieces than expected, we square the difference. We then divide the square by the expected count and sum the values. This gives us the test statistic.

The tools for making tonal and color adjustments are located in the Adjustments panel. Clicking on any of them not only selects the relevant adjustment but also automatically creates an adjustment layer. Adjustments made using the controls and options in the Adjustments panel result in the creation of nondestructive adjustment layers.
